Have a Desire HD or an Incredible S lying around with official Froyo on it? Here’s some news which will make you love your Android device even more! HTC has started to officially roll out the Gingerbread update for both the Desire HD and Incredible S as an OTA update.

The news was confirmed by HTC Europe’s support page, for the Desire HD:

Update – HTC Desire HD Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update

Your phone will receive a notification of FOTA update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number). The new Build number after the update will be 2.36.405.5. Update: Android 2.3 upgrade. NotePlease back up your data first before upgrading your phone. We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. For any questions, please contact us at http://www.htc.com/www/CA_Hotline.aspx

For the Incredible S:

Update – HTC Incredible S Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update

Your phone will receive a notification of FOTA update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number). The new Build number after the update will be 2.12.405.7. Update: Android 2.3 upgrade. Note:Please back up your data first before upgrading your phone. We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. So yes, backup your handset just in case, and keep your eye on the notifications bar at all times. You never know when the update might start hit your device, or you can check for the update manually by going into settings > About Phone > System Software Update and tap on Check Now.
