Apple’s New Macbook Pro Landed With Intel Core i5 and i7 Processors
After two days of store down time, Apple as expected, has released its new MacBook Pro models this morning. The new 15 and 17-inch models are loaded with Intel’s Core i5 and i7 processors and new display options, but the 13-inch model stays behind with a Core2 Duo and of course the unchanged price.
All the new models are coming with a base of 4GB of RAM (expandable to 8GB). Core i7 processors are having options for both the 15 and 17-inch models, that include NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 330M discrete graphics—considered to be mid-range notebook graphics cards.
Interestingly, the 15 and 17-inch MacBook Pros will use a new, proprietary system to swap between discrete and integrated graphics based upon what processes that you are running in OS X—a technique somewhat similar to what we’ve seen from NVIDIA’s Optimus system.
Among the new features, the most intereting one perhaps is the screen option for the 15-inchers, as you can now choose between three different screens: Glossy Widescreen Display (1440×900 pixels), Hi-Res Glossy Widescreen Display (1680×1050 pixels) and Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display (1680×1050 pixels). If you’re looking at a 15-inch MacBook Pro as a good compromise between size and power, lack of screen options shouldn’t be a problem anymore.
Another attraction is the battery life: Apple now claims 10 hours on a single charge for the 13” models, and 8-9 hours for the 15” and 17” MacBook Pros.
As far as prices is concerned, the 13-inch models start at $1199, where as the cheapest 17-inch now starts at $2,299, $200 cheaper than before, and the cheapest 15” model is now $1799.
