Google Acquires Motorola Mobility For A Whooping $12.5 Billion
Motorola Mobility, which is one of the biggest mobile device manufacturers of the world has been acquired by the search engine giant Google.

The move came in front of the world when Google felt that they were taking a huge hit from Apple and Microsoft in the form of heavy lawsuits, therefore a competitive edge was needed somehow. Therefore Google made the smart move and went on with buying Motorola Mobility for a stunning price of $12.5 billion in a bid.
This is however, the biggest acquisition which Google has ever made recently. With Google currently the owner of $39 billion in cash/capital, the buy was certainly the most expensive one for the search giant, but needless to say, it was a much needed one as well.
Currently at the moment, Google’s mobile platform Android is being shipped on hundreds of different breeds of hardware. But sadly, there isn’t a phone which is manufactured by Google itself. Of course the Nexus One and the Nexus S carry the official Google branding on them, but they are after all manufactured by HTC and Samsung respectively. With the purchase of Motorola however, we can see a huge change in how we see future devices from Motorola/Google.
The purchase of Motorola by Google has also given the said company the right to over 17,000 patents, and also other 7,000 patents which are pending elsewhere, which his huge if you’re asking us.
Currently at the moment, Apple and Microsoft are giving Google a hard time by constantly filing lawsuits against them over patent infringement, which is thought to be made up according to Google itself. Let’s see where this acquisition takes Google. I hope to see some Ice Cream Sandwich devices later this year to start off with.
