According to a new report by BGR, Google is all set to launch their flagship smartphone running Android Ice Cream Sandwich some time in October.

The interesting thing about this report is, however, that Google is planning to push out their next “Nexus” device alongside the iPhone 5’s launch, as BGR reports:
We’ve received some information from a source with knowledge of Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich plans, and it’s looking like the first Ice Cream Sandwich devices could start hitting the ground in as early as October.
They further added:
We have been told that Google is looking to push up the release of Ice Cream Sandwich devices as Apple’s iPhone 5 is expected in September or October, and the Mountain View-based company doesn’t want potential customers coming out of contracts (especially original DROID owners) and “drooling over the iPhone 5.”
In this era of tough competition and the fight to steal the first place in the smartphone world, everyone is taking a serious beating from the iPhone’s success, or moreover, iOS’s radical domination in the mobile industry around the globe.
The iPhone 5 is said to be the immediate successor to the currently aging iPhone 4 and will be a smartphone with a whole new design and powerful hardware.
The new Nexus handset from Google on the other hand will be Google’s first Ice Cream Sandwich powered smartphone. Ice Cream Sandwich was announced this year at Google I/O, and is an OS designed for both tablets and smartphones. Google is taking a different step this time in order to fight fragmentation once and for all. The expected Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone from Google will either be a game changer for Google or might just turn out to be a regular smartphone. There are no reports on who will manufacture the next Google branded smartphone, yet. Although there have been reports that the next Nexus handset would be named the “Nexus Prime”, and might be manufactured by Samsung, but its not confirmed yet.
