GreenPois0n Jailbreak Tool Delayed: SHAtter Exploit Saved for Next-Gen iOS Devices
Today at 10.10.10 GMT, there was going to be a big bang as Dev Team had already announced to unveil their Greenpois0n iOS 4.1 jailbreak download, but unfortunately it did not happen. GreenPois0n , the development and hard work from the Chronic Dev Team that took them weeks and weeks to complete, could not be released. This SHAtter exploit based tool was due for release today as already planned, but there was big upset caused by the release of George Hotz’ Limera1n (which is based on a new exploit; pwns all iOS 4.1 devices). Chronic Dev Team was left with no option against this smart move but to implement the exploit of bootrom used by George in GreenPoison and not to waste Shatter. This must have been a very tough decision to make as initially they had shown intention to go ahead with it, as you can see below:
GeoHot’s move may be termed as crazy, but it was very smart at the same tim. Rather than so much interested in release of his tool, he seems more interested in forcing the Chronic Dev Team to use his exploits in GreenPoison. If the Chronic Dev Team had decided to release Greenpois0n today, it would have been waste of a very important exploit (SHAtter). Naturally, they won’t do such a thing. They had no other choice but to delay GreenPois0n and which they have done today. So no 10.10.10 event happened today!

In the wake of this new development, Greenpois0n will now be overhauled by Chronic Dev Team who will be saving the SHAtter exploit for later iOS devices and implementing Geohot’s limera1n exploit.

This is what see from Chronic Dev Team as posted on their blog:
Thanks to the irresponsible antics of geohot, we will have to delay the release of greenpois0n (new ETA = as soon as possible), so that we have time to clean up his little mess and integrate the exploit he uses in limera1ninto greenpois0n. This way, we can save SHAtter for future devices that may still be vulnerable to it.
We know that this is not what some people want to hear, but due to geohot needing to feed his ego (as usual) and revealing his limera1n exploit, we do not have any other responsible options.
In these difficult hours what the team has decided was the most logical, correct and responsible decision which of course is in the best interest of the jailbreak community. The tool of Chronic Dev Team has suffered some delay, but at least the jailbreak community can benefit from it at a later stage. [Via Redmond Pie]
