The iPhone Dev Team has just released an updated version of Redsn0w which fully supports jailbreaking iOS 5 beta 5 running on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and is now available for download.

PWNED

One thing that should be kept in mind is that the new and updated Redsn0w is intended to be used by jailbreak developers only who are willing to test their apps on the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. If the tool is being used apart from this reason, then it’s a dead on guess that its being pirated.

Just like any other iOS 5 beta jailbreak, this one is also tethered at the moment, which means that if you come by a moment where your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad loses power then you would have to connect your device to your PC and Mac and boot it into the jailbroken state again. That is the price you would have to pay for such a jailbreak, but any jailbreak is better than no jailbreak right?

iOS 5 beta 5 was seeded to developers a few days back, and was available from Apple’s developer page, and those who were already on iOS 5 beta 4, then beta 5 was seeded as an OTA (over the air) update, which was a 128MB download, available both via 3G and Wi-Fi.

The supported devices at the moment are the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G and 4G and the original iPad. And you’ve guessed it, the iPad 2 is not supported in any case using Redsn0w.

The steps for jailbreaking iOS 5 beta 5 are exactly the same as given here, except that you would have to restore your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad to iOS 5 beta 5 using iTunes 10.5 beta 5, then you fire up Redsn0w and simply point it towards the iOS 5 beta 5 IPSW, simply as that. Simply check the “Install Cydia” option and hit next, and Redsn0w will do its thing and you’ll boot into the jailbroken version of iOS 5 beta 5. The download links for Redsn0w are given below:
