After the recent acquisition of Skype by Microsoft, there have been tons of questions asking how Skype on Windows Phone 7 would look like.

In an interview with Forbes, Neil Stevens, who is the VP/GM over at Skype said:

A Windows Phone app, if done well, can show people what a really great Skype experience is like when there are no hardware or vendor limitations

Therefore we should expect that Skype on Windows Phone 7 won’t just be a mere app, instead it would be deeply integrated in and out of the OS. This means that using Skype on a mobile device would be like using something which is quite native and feels natural, rather than getting into the trouble of launching an app then initiating a call, instead, Skype would be seamlessly integrated throughout the OS.

Skype has apps on different platforms such as iOS, Android, Symbian etc. But the problem with them is; they constantly run in the background and kill the battery life of our handset. Wouldn’t it be great if Skype worked like a normal phone call over the cellular network or Wi-Fi? This is the whole idea behind Skype for Windows Phone 7.

Skype was acquired by Microsoft in May for a price of $8.5 Billion, which is the biggest acquisition by Microsoft in their history. Microsoft plans to use Skype’s services in a wide variety of ways, starting off probably with Windows Phone 7, then other products and services such as Xbox, Windows etc.

We’re quite certain that Skype for Windows Phone 7 won’t be available to general public in the coming days, rather it would be a built-in feature of Windows Phone 7’s next big update Mango, which is a huge leap in terms of features and functionality.
