This Is Why Apple Didn’t Make The Black MacBook Air
Apparently it turns out that Apple in deed had plans to manufacture a black MacBook Air, if this article is to be taken a bit too seriously then it explains the reason why Apple abandoned the whole plan at the very last moment.

The news was tipped off by an employee (Apple?) to MacRumors again, in which he confirmed that Apple indeed had plans to make a black MacBook Air and also explained why it didn’t work out, the mail is as follows:
The rumors that the next iteration of the MBA’s will have an optional black finish is grounded in truth.
We tried to powder coat the Air’s (and Pro’s for that matter) in black as a test run. There are more than a few floating around campus.
The coating looks good and holds up well, but it also soaks up body oils, making the palm rest look pretty gross. Ultimately that is the reason that the top brass (Jobs) killed the idea… it was just too easy to make the computer look like crap.
At some point we may offer a black coating, but it won’t be powder coat, and it won’t be anytime soon.
The thing that is puzzling us the most is the anonymity of the employee itself, as MacRumors points out:
The sender doesn’t have an existing track record, but after chatting with him, we suspect his story checks out.
Its suspected that Apple is going to give the MacBook Air a refresh soon in the near future with the new and powerful Intel Sandy Bridge processors coupled with the high-speed Thunderbolt I/O. Lately supplies of the MacBook Air have been dwindling which points towards a launch date sometime around July if we’re not wrong or maybe August, if Apple feels that they should launch the new hardware along with Mac OS X Lion.
It would have been great if Apple could get the black MacBook Air in production. How many of you are bored with the plain old aluminum finish? *raises hand*
