According to PocketLint:

Microsoft will roll out it’s latest phone operating system, currently codenamed Mango, to Windows Phone 7 users starting on 1 September, Pocket-lint has exclusively learnt. Therefore, that will be the date that the company will start its fightback against Android and the iPhone.

According to Microsoft, they would start rolling out the Mango update to everyone starting in Fall, with general availability sometime around Christmas. But it seems that Microsoft has a slight change in plan for a variety of reasons, mainly due to the fact that Apple would be dropping the new iPhone in September, and there’s a high chance that Google will also announce their flagship Android Ice Cream Sandwich handset sometime in September too.

Also keep in mind that the Mango update will not be exclusive to a group of handsets, it will be rolled out to everyone. If you have an HD7, a Mozart, an Omnia 7 or a Focus etc. each and every one of you will get the Mango update. This time Microsoft has made sure that hearts aren’t broken, like they did when they didn’t give HD2 owners the Windows Phone 7 love.

Windows Phone 7 Mango is the biggest update to Windows Phone 7 yet, and according to Microsoft itself, it will bring more than 500 new features on the table. It includes things like better SkyDrive integration, Twitter integration, Facebook Chat integration, better Windows Live integration, Internet Explorer 9 Mobile etc. This is just a glimpse of what Windows Phone 7 has to offer, we’re quite certain that it will give its competitors a rough time in terms of features, if all goes well that is.
